Vega del Castillo Merlot (2007)

The Olite vineyards were formed into a cooperative almost 100 years ago making Vega del Castillo the oldest in Spain. Winemaking skills and secrets have been passed down from generation to generation. Now, with advanced technology they are able to combine tradition and modern techniques.

The grape harvest takes place in mid-September and for this wine only 100% merlot grapes are selected. Temperature-controlled alcoholic fermentation is undertaken followed by malolactic fermentation in American oak barrels for 3 months ageing.

Bright deep cherry red colour. Intensely fragrant with varying bouquet. A full palate, expressive and well structured with ripe tasting fruits. This wine improves greatly after only 3 months in barrel showing its difference to other young merlot wines which have not been barrel aged.

Grilled and roasted meats. Vegetable, rice and pasta dishes. Chinese and oriental cuisine. Very good with mature strong cheeses.
